EPR study of the rare paramagnetic centres in Ce-based oxides

Abstract
Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) measurements have been performed at 4.2 K on MeCeO oxides, where Me = Cu, V, Mn, Mo, with atomic ratio Me/Ce = 0.1. In addition to the paramagnetic species usually observed in such oxides (Cu 2+, V 4+, Mn 2+, Mo 5+) and assigned in a previous work, new EPR spectral features have been observed and attributed to Ce 3+ ions, to another valence state (V 2+) of the vanadium doping ion, to new Mn 2+ sites and to paramagnetic impurities ions such as Fe 3+ and Er 3+.

Résumé
Des mesures par la Résonance Paramagnétique Electronique (RPE) sont réalisées à 4,2 K sur des oxydes MeCeO, où Me = Cu, V, Mn, Mo, avec un rapport atomique Me/Ce = 0,1. En plus des espèces paramagnétiques habituellement observées dans de tels oxydes (Cu 2+, V 4+, Mn 2+, Mo 5+), des nouveaux spectres RPE ont été observés et attribués à des ions Ce 3+, à un autre état de valence (V 2+) des ions vanadium, à un nouveau site de Mn 2+ et à des impuretés paramagnétiques telles que les ions Fe 3+ et Er 3+.
