Formation constants of 1:1 and 1:2 complexes of methylethylketone and acetophenone with phenol
Department of Physics, Annamalai University, Annamalainagar, South India.
Formation constants for 1 : 2 complexes of ketone-phenol systems in carbon tetrachloride were determined by the method of Whetsel and Kagarise. The values for K11 and K12 for methyl-ethyl ketone-Phenol system were 8,6 1/m and 27 1/m respectively. For Acetophenone-Phenol system values of 6,9 1/m and 23 1/m were obtained for K11 and K12 respectively. The complexity of the acetophenone molecule resulted in a decrease in the values of formation constants for both 1 : 1 and 1 : 2 complexes. From a knowledge of K11 and K12 values, the relative abundance of different molecular species is determined.
