Odd-Even effect in dipole moments of some liquid crystalline cholesteryl esters

On mesure en solution benzénique à 45 °C les moments dipolaires des butyrate, caproate, heptylate, caprylate, pelargonate, decylate, laurate, myristate, palmitate, stearate et benzoate de cholesteryle.
La variation du moment dipolaire et la transition de température montrent des effets pair-impair analogues en fonction du nombre de carbone de la chaîne paraffinique du groupement ester terminal.
Abstract
Dipole moments of cholesteryl butyrate, caproate, heptylate, caprylate, pelargonate, decylate, laurate, myristate, palmitate, stearate and benzoate are measured in benzene solutions at 45 °C. The variation of dipole-moment and transition temperature show similar odd-even effect with number of carbon atoms in alkyl chain of the terminal ester group.
