Comportement photochimique des systèmes chrome (VI) et (III)-acrylamide en solution aqueuse

Résumé

L’analyse spectrale des systèmes chrome(VI) (HCrO₄^-) ou chrome(III) (Cr(H₂O)₆)³⁺ -acrylamide montre qu'il n’existe pas de complexation entre le centre métallique et le monomère vinylique à l'état fondamental. Par excitation dans une transition propre au groupement HCrO₄^- en présence d'acrylamide, on provoque la photo-réduction quantitative du chrome(VI) en chrome(III) et la polymérisation de l’acrylamide. La complexation qui intervient à l'état excité conduit dans une première étape à la formation de chrome(V) et d'un radical organique amorceur de la polymérisation. Le taux de conversion et la masse moyenne des chaînes polymères ont été déterminés. L’excitation dans une transition propre à Cr(H₂O)₆)³⁺ (λ = 365 ou 546 nm) provoque également la polymérisation de l'acrylamide. Cependant on n’observe aucune modification spectrale du chrome(III) durant l’irradiation. Seule la polymérisation permet de mettre en évidence la réaction de photo-oxydo-réduction entre le chrome (III) et l’acrylamide.

Abstract

It does not appear any complexation between HCrO₄^-) or Cr(H₂O)₆³⁺and acrylamid in the ground state. Through excitation at 365 nm, corresponding to a specific transition of HCrO₄^- both the quantitative photoreduction of Cr^VI to Cr^III and the acrylamide polymerisation are observed. Complexation in the excited state results in the primary formation of Cr^v and an organic radical. The polymerisation parameters, conversion degree and average molecular weight, are determined and discussed. When irradiated at 365 nm or 546 nm in presence of acrylamide, an aqueous solution of Cr(H₂O)₃₊₆ can initiate the polymerisation of the vinyl monomer. There is no apparent change in the UV-visible or ESR spectrum before and after irradiation. Only the photopolymerisation reflects the photoredox process which takes place between Cr^III and acrylamide in the excited state.
