Abstract
The different ways of obtaining monoenergetic particles for flic study of ionization and dissociation processes in molecules are briefly reviewed and discussed. A monoenergetic ion source of the Fox type is presented and its operating conditions discussed in detail, with particular emphasis on the characteristics of the source, which is a special type of pentode. Its functioning has been tested with rare gases.
