Dielectric behaviour in substituted ethanes
Department of Physics, University of Gorakhpur, Gorakhpur, India.
The values of the static dielectric constant and the complex permittivity (ε' and ε") of 1,1-dichloro-l-nitroethane and 1,1,2,2-tetrabromoelhane are reported at 1.8 GHz, 3.9 GHz, 9.8 GHz, 24.7 GHz and 36.8 GHz and at 30, 40, 50 and 60°C in pure liquid and at 35°C in benzene solution. These data have been utilized to compute the dielectric relaxation parameters of these compounds in pure liquid and benzene solution. The two substances are found to be associated with zero distribution parameter and behave as spherical molecules having single relaxation time. The temperature variation of the relaxation time in pure liquid is utilized to estimate the thermodynamic parameters. The dipole moment values of these are also evaluated in benzene solution.
