Abstract
Carbon-carbon-properties are discussed together with three main uses: rockets, brakes and biomaterials. A need is identified for multiaxial tests botn on rheologies and on failure criteria, ivon-nnear model development is discussed for multidirectionnal materials, in connexion with the type of reinforcement. Good results have been obtained on fatigue and crack propagation tests. Biocompatibility has been shown to be surprisingly good, and hemocompatibility too. More work has to be made to understand all those properties, and relate them to the architecture and microstructures of materials. A trend is observed towards new composites made from carbon- carbon associated with other products.
