Application of Pitzer's and Guggenheim's formalisms to acid-base equilibria of triethanolamine and L-valine in mixtures of electrolytes

We determined the stoichiometric equilibrium constants of L-valine in equimolar mixtures of KCl-KBr and KCl-KNO3, as well as those of triethanolamine in KCl-KBr at ionic strengths between 0.1 and 1.5 by means of H+ ion-sensitive combined glass electrodes. The results thus obtained were analysed on the basis of the Pitzer and Guggenheim models for the activity coefficients of the species involved, from which different dependences of the stoichiometric constants on the solution ionic strength were derived.
Résumé
Nous avons determiné les constantes stoechiométriques d’equilibre acide-base pour la l-valine dans des mélanges equimolaires de KCl-KBr et KCl-KNO3 et pour la triethanolamine dans des solutions de KCl-KBr. Ces determinations ont eté effectuées à des forces ioniques de 0.1 à 1.5. Les données ont eté analysées au moyen des equations de Pitzer et Guggenheim pour les coefficients d’activité des espèces présentes.
