Phase equilibria investigation of the yttrium-gold system

The gold-yttrium system has been studied by differential thermal analysis (DTA), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), optical (LOM) and electron microscopy (SEM), electron probe microanalysis (EPMA). Seven intennetallic compounds have been found: Y2AU (Co2Si-type), YAu (CsCl-type), Y3AU4 (Pu3Pd4-type), YAu2 (MoSi2-type), YAU3 (TiCu3-type), Y14AU51 (Gd14Ag51-type), YAu6 (HoAu6-type). The Y-Au system is compared with the other trivalent rare earth metals-gold phase diagrams previously known.
Résumé
Le diagramme de phase du système binaire Y-Au a été étudié par ATD, diffraction aux rayons X, microscopie optique and électronique. Sept phases ont été déterminées: Y2AU (Co2Si-type), YAu (CsCl-type), Y3AU4 (Pu3Pd4-type), YAu2 (MoSi2-type), YAU3 (TiCu3-type), Y14AU51 (Gd14Ag51-type), YAu6 (HoAu6-type). Le diagramme de phases Y-Au est comparé avec les diagrammes des phases, déjà connus, de l’or avec les terres rares trivalentes.
