Studies on intervalence transfer absorption
II. — Polynuclear complexes of Copper
Department of Chemistry, University College of Science, Calcutta-9, India.
The optical intervalence transfer absorption has been located in Cu4Cl5(en)2, Cu3Br4(NH3)4; Cu3Br4(en)2 and Cu2I3(en)2. Theoretical calculation from the experimental band width and band intensity data shows that there is very little electron delocalization from donor to acceptor in the ground state. The energy necessary to bring about intervalence transfer from donor to acceptor thermally has been estimated from the electronic conductivity data at different temperatures. The theoretical relation Eth = Eop/4 were found to be valid in these systems.
