Asymptotic expressions at high and low temperature for the second virial coefficient of the Morse intermolecular potential

Abstract

The second virial coefficient for the Morse intermolecular potential B_M(T) is evaluated in closed form in terms of the parabolic cylinder functions. The large and small-argument expansions of these functions lead to simple asymptotic formula for B_M(T) valid at low and high temperatures.

Résumé

Le deuxième coefficient du viriel pour le potentiel intermoléculaire de Morse B_M(T) est mis sous une forme finie à l'aide des fonctions paraboliques cylindriques. Le comportement asymptotique de ces fonctions fournit pour B_M(T) des expressions analytiques simples valables à basse et à haute température.
